Bear Truss workers decertify union THE SAGINAW NEWS
ST. LOUIS -- In an unusual move, employees at Bear Truss & Components Co. in St. Louis have overwhelmingly voted to decertify their labor union.
Members of the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters Local 1045 voted 77-31 to dissolve the bargaining group for 131 workers.
'We're happy to know that at least most of the guys believe in us,' said Paul Luneack, one of the company's owners. 'Now it's up to us to make sure they're taken care of.'
Employees voted in December 2002 to become members of the Warren-based carpenter's union. However, it never reached a contract settlement with Bear Truss.
