BENICIA – A painter fell off the Benicia-Martinez Bridge on Wednesday and plunged 120 feet to his death.
The worker lost his balance when he tried to step from a scaffold to a bridge column around 3 p.m. and fell backward, Caltrans spokesman Steve Cobb said. He plunged to the base of the column and was pronounced dead at the site.
Caltrans officials said they did not know whether the man was wearing a safety harness and if so, whether it was properly attached. Workers are required to wear harnesses when they are on a bridge.
Traffic on the bridge was not affected.------------------------------------------- posted 5:49 PM :: reference link ::
