Carpenters nail chance to land a job New York Daily News
The 17-week course consists of classes, mostly at the carpenters union headquarters, and field work. Graduates can get referrals to paid apprenticeship programs, which usually last four years.
While the federal government takes care of funding, the union provides learning space and experience, using the program to enhance its members' diversity. The homes are owned by Habitat for Humanity, an organization that builds housing for low-income folks.
