Builders urge children away - By Mica Thomas Mulloy, Newszap Arizona
Darin Perkins, director of the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health, said construction is by far the most dangerous industry in Arizona.Mr. Perkins said in 2002, the most recent statistics available, the state's construction industry had an incident rate of 8.4, meaning out of every 100 employees, 8.4 were injured on the job. The statewide average for all industry was five.
In 2000 there were 21 construction industry fatalities, Mr. Perkins said.
'If it is hazardous for employees who are adults you can image how much more dangerous it is for kids,' Mr. Perkins said.
