And now, a moment of protest - By Alana Semuels, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Even more appropriately, today is the 70th anniversary of the signing of the National Labor Relations Act, which gave workers the right to organize and bargain with employers -- and some would argue, to protest. During one such protest in Pittsburgh, the local Service Employees International Union borrowed a giant inflatable rat from their Chicago brethren. The purpose? To squirt it with Silly String in front of the Oliver Building to depict a nonunion cleaning contractor. Unfortunately, the Silly String ruined the rat because both were petroleum products, and the union had to buy another giant inflatable rat to give back to Chicago, according to SEIU spokesman Tom Hoffman. 'For future reference,' he says, 'Don't use Silly String on plastic rats.'
