Working for relevance - Unions reach out in innovative, positive ways to try to stay useful - By ROBERT STRUCKMAN, The Missoulian, MT
A stack of papers on health insurance sits in the flier-lined office of Dennis Daneke of the Carpenters and Millwrights Union Local 28.
"We all have health insurance problems," Daneke said.
Two years ago, insurance premiums amounted to about $2 per hour worked by a union carpenter in Missoula. This year it's $4.80 per hour for carpenters and more than $7 an hour for ironworkers, Daneke said.
"You either have health benefits or enough money for gas in the tank, and it's getting worse," he said.
