AFL-CIO's Sweeney pledges to rebuild labor federation - By Travis Reed, AP Wire
Sweeney told the Florida AFL-CIO's Biennial Convention the factions must be united if they plan to stop eroded worker's rights in Hurricane Katrina contracts and elect lawmakers who listen to labor concerns.
'I regret that some of our unions in our country have left our federation and are going their own way at this critical time,' he told convention delegates.
He said the federation was working hard to give breakaway unions and their members a chance to join the AFL-CIO at local levels.
'We are determined to focus our energy on those who are trying to tear us apart,' Sweeney said.------------------------------------------- posted 5:17 AM :: reference link ::
