Carpenters' union liaison works to forge ties with community - By Nancy Steele Brokaw, Bloomington Pantagraph, Il
'Unfortunately, the first image people have of unions is a picket line,' says Don Alsman, a union carpenter for 40 years who now works in union management. 'We're not that guy; we're the guy who lives next door that happens to carry a union card.'
Alsman represents Local 63, Bloomington's 107-year-old chapter of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
Alsman wants union carpenters to be known as part of the community. 'Let the public see who we are as people, let people get to know us without a bad reputation preceding us,' he says.------------------------------------------- posted 5:07 AM :: reference link ::
