After scaffold deaths, the city acts to ensure safety of workers - By HEIDI J. SHRAGER, Staten Island Advance, NY The changes address the perils of hanging scaffolds suspended from skyscrapers. The number of deaths and injuries involving these structures has spiked, to 20 in 2006 from 11 in 2005 and five in 2004, according to a report by the mayor's Suspended Scaffold Worker Safety Task Force, convened in November.
