Vlasic, the pickle manufacturer, was so successful in producing a low-cost product for Wal-Mart that its other products suffered. Vlasic filed for bankruptcy. Wal-Mart, the country’s largest seller of bicycles, sold so many of the lowest-end Huffy bicycles that Huffy could not keep up with its inventory of more expensive bikes. Then, Wal-Mart undersold Huffy by importing cheaper bikes from China. Huffy went bankrupt. The Lovable Company, one of Wal-Mart’s first suppliers, sold bras and lingerie to Wal-Mart, which became Lovable’s largest customer. In 1996, Wal-Mart replaced Lovable with products from Asia. Lovable closed sixteen months later. According to Frank Garson II, Lovable’s president, “Wal-Mart chewed us up and spit us out.”
