Getting fired up over a firing, years ago - By HERB MEEKER, Journal Gazette and Times-Courier, IL
The other day some workers here were talking about people who lie on their resumes.

I tried to obey the little sign taped to my computer, “Newsroom Motto: Shut Up & Type!”, but suddenly the wheels started churning even harder between my ears.

My most recent update of a resume cut out the only case where a boss gave me time to clean out my desk. Before you boil up the tar and gather the feathers, please note it happened more than 25 years ago and my experience only lasted seven weeks at that tiny newspaper and trade journal north of here. So I don’t think I’ll be accused of being unethical on this omission unless I run for political office someday.

But the experience of losing a job at the start of my career has stuck with me in different ways. It’s something to think about before Labor Day when most of us take a day off from working on a holiday once dedicated to those who work.
