Farm workers' rights addressed for Chavez Week - By TABITHA KEILY, Boise State University The Arbiter Online, ID
Morales highlighted the irony that farm workers often don't have enough food to feed their families, despite the fact that they harvest the food.
He also emphasized how important agriculture has been to Idaho, both historically and in the present day.
Morales spoke about the issue of pesticide exposure that affects a large number of farm workers.
He cited the 1993 Environmental Protection Agency statistics showing that an estimated 10,000 to 20,000 farm workers have been poisoned by pesticides.
This problem is underreported because many of these workers cannot easily seek medical help. The symptoms of pesticide poisoning are similar to those of the common cold. Thus, cases can be wrongly diagnosed.
