Ontario: Asbestos Standards Tighten - Don Procter, AWCI's Construction Dimensions
Tough new regulations on asbestos abatement in Ontario will have a major impact on drywall contractors doing renovations. The regulations stipulate that contractors renovating buildings with drywall compound made sometime in the 1970s and 1980s must put up air-tight enclosures and wear Tyvek suits and half-face respirators with P-100 filters.

In accordance with Type 2 asbestos removal standards, the measures bring Ontario contractors up from Type 1 standards that simply required a drop sheet in removal operations; Tyvek suits were optional.
