British Columbia - Labour Movement Needs to Regain Rebel Energy A deeper problem, Leier says, is the labour movement's own complacency. For a quarter of a century, union leaders have been settled into the specialized milieu of arbitration, mediation, and adjudication, telling workers that if they want a better world they should vote for the New Democratic Party. Politics is fine, Leier says, but there's a limit to what legislatures can do.
"Labour is going to have to recapture that rebel energy it once had," Leier said. "That's what makes it work. If it's not growing, it's stagnating."
