Latest U.S. proposal on softwood lumber "laughable" The latest proposal from U.S. lumber producers to resolve the cross-border softwood lumber dispute is so bad that it can only be laughed off, Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew said Friday.
The minister flatly rejected a proposed 33 per cent export tax that would be levied by Washington on Canadian softwood as a transitional measure until the longrunning dispute can be resolved.
