Seattle Times: Union linked to casino bid had 5 officials indicted The company had planned to get its money from the Carpenters' Pension Trust Fund of Detroit and vicinity. That fund is affiliated with the labor organization for which the indicted officials worked - the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters. None of the five indicted were trustees of the pension fund that would have paid for the casino. The charges they face are unrelated to the project.

State reveals casino unease "However, our level of concern about the Carpenters Pension Trust Fund Detroit and vicinity has increased based on our knowledge that some officers and members of the (carpenters' union) also hold positions with the pension fund," Nunamaker wrote.

Trials scheduled William Barnwell, director of organizing with the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters, is charged with misappropriating funds. His trial date is Sept. 9
