NEWS.com.au | Public holiday call for May Day A LEADING unionist has called for May Day, marking the adoption of the eight-hour day, to become a national public holiday.
"I would like to call on the Australian prime minister to declare May Day a public holiday," Victorian Trades Hall Council president Dean Mighell told about 2,000 workers at a rally at Federation Square today.
