Future buildings may be clothed in plastic BY PHIL PATTON
The history of architecture is littered with visionary proposals for revolutionizing building technology, ideas that failed to achieve commercial practicality. The last major advance in building skins, for example, was glass, famously used at the Crystal Palace exhibition hall, built near London in 1851. Another obstacle is that the construction trades in the United States have traditionally been resistant to change.
