Softwood Lumber: Workers Needed in the Negotiations: 'Unfortunately, while governments and business lobbies on both side of the border were loudly claiming victory at the panel findings, in the resourcecommunities in both countries, working families only heard that their time of hardship is not over because once again a lasting settlement is not near,' says Ken Georgetti, president of the Canadian Labour Congress. 'The NAFTA panel decision did however underline that the punishing tariffs the U.S. imposed on Canadian softwood lumber, were illegal under U.S. laws. The Canadian Labour Congress calls on the governments in Washington and Ottawa tofind an incentive to start anew on the path of negotiations.'
