Union says insolvent Slater Steel signalling that liquidation will proceed By STEVE ERWIN
TORONTO (CP) - Insolvent Slater Steel Inc. will go ahead with plans to liquidate its remaining businesses in Ontario and Quebec now that last-ditch attempts to restart concession talks with its unions have failed, a United Steelworkers official said Tuesday.

Added Tony DePaulo, the Steelworkers' area co-ordinator: "The company's plan was to cut our members' wages and benefits without any thought about how to restructure the operation."
