Marine Workers left out of shipyard package CBC - New Brunswick
SAINT JOHN — J.D. Irving has reached a deal with most of the unions at its former shipyard.
The company announced that four of the five unions reached a deal to get a share of the $10 million severance fund offered by the company.
But the largest union, Marine Workers Local 3, refused to negotiate. That union represents 75 per cent of the workers.
Company spokesperson Mary Keith says the shipyard's obligations to the unions expired midnight March 15.------------------------------------------- posted 7:09 AM :: reference link ::
