Nontraditional Careers Presented at Women In Trades Fair By Joan Jones, GrantsPassNews
About three percent of the construction work-force is women, said Molly Cochman, of Oregon Tradeswomen. It's difficult for some girls to imagine themselves as carpenters, she said, and it can seem complicated and confusing to get started.
'Girls are not automatically on the right path and encouraged to take classes like math,' Cochman said. One purpose of Oregon Tradeswomen is to offer counseling to high school teachers and other educators about how to recruit girls for their technical classes and get them interested in nontraditional careers.
