President has hands on visit with carpenters By Jon Kamman, The Arizona Republic
Minutes earlier, instructor John Herrera, working with Hemphill's son, Jason, a third-stage apprentice, welcomed Bush to a drywall-hanging workshop and invited him to help put up a section of wallboard.
'Absolutely,' the president said, shedding his sport coat and telling nobody in particular, 'Hold my coat.' Douglas McCarron, president of the 500,000-member union, quickly took it.
Bush drove two screws with a power gun. One went a little deeper than preferred, but the senior Hemphill said the screw gun might not have been adjusted to stop at the correct depth.
In an observation that could just as easily be advice for Bush in his current job, Hemphill said, 'The trick is knowing how much pressure to apply.'------------------------------------------- posted 9:12 AM :: reference link ::
