Tough test for vo-tech efforts By ANNE COOK, Urbana/Champaign News-Gazette, IL
Dan McCall, president of Bricklayers Union Local 8 and of the East Central Illinois Building and Construction Council, said he sees the same story unfolding in his trade groups.
"We get a lot of applications, but most are coming from rural schools," McCall said. "We get very few from Champaign and Urbana schools. It's because of exposure. They're not told about trade options. They're told they have to go to college."
McCall said his organizations are involved in a project at Urbana High School, to remodel and upgrade an old welding shop and restart a welding program there that was discontinued.------------------------------------------- posted 1:29 PM :: reference link ::
