Montreal worker protests retirement rules CTV.ca
After 26 years working as a restaurant inspector, Patrick Le Lann says he's ready for early retirement. He's a single dad who wants to spend more time with his kids.
If he were a woman, he'd have no problem. He could retire now, having put in 25 years of service. But as his union's rules stand, as a man, he has to work four more years, until he has provided 30 years of service. Le Lann says the union's rules are discriminatory, and his bosses won't budge.
"I've got to take care of my kids. I just want the same thing as the women," he says.
To make his point, Le Lann has started dressing as a woman, showing up at work in a $12 sleeveless dress.
"It's cheaper than $5,000 of lawyers," he quips.
