Kingstons' mine sues over strike By Pamela Manson, The Salt Lake Tribune, UT
A mining company owned by the Kingston polygamous family filed suit Friday against miners who picketed the operation last year and more than 100 other individuals and groups that either spoke in support of the workers or published information about the labor dispute.

The 122 defendants targeted in the action include the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA); the Socialist Workers Party and its newspaper, The Militant; the Roman Catholic Church and Bishop George Niederauer of the Utah Diocese; Tapestry Against Polygamy; The Salt Lake Tribune and several of its editors and reporters; and other media organizations and journalists.

The plaintiffs are the C.W. Mining Company and the International Association of United Workers Union (IAUWA), which picketing workers claimed is a "yellow-dog" union run   by members of the Kingston family.

Kingstons sue News, others over mine tiff By Angie Welling, Deseret Morning News
Friday's lawsuit cites hundreds of reportedly defamatory statements made in the course of the mine dispute, such as:

          • A former union miner who encouraged picketers in November 2003, saying, "Everyone knows the Kingstons have been abusing the people at this mine for years," as reported in The Militant, a publication of the Socialist Workers Party.

          • A comment by Bishop George Niederauer of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City who said the C.W. Mining Co. was denying its workers the right to fair wages, safe working conditions and to associate as workers, as reported by the Salt Lake Tribune.

          • A statement from Susan Vogel, of the social advocacy group CodePink, that the mine was a "heinous polygamist engine of the Kingstons," as reported by the Deseret Morning News.
