Rain-Screen Walls: a Better Way to Install Siding by Mark Averill Snyder, Fine Homebuilding
You might argue that rain should never get past a properly detailed, standard siding job. I once would have argued the same. However, when my crew stripped this house's walls of their trim and clapboards, we stood back and marveled. The worst damage was around door and window openings and under clapboard joints, exactly where water had leaked under the unprimed siding. The funny thing is that even though we looked carefully at the siding's installation, it was hard to see how water had leaked in. The workmanship was perfectly acceptable.
