Construction company sues maker of crane that collapsed in Toledo AP Wire
Fru-Con is seeking a refund of the $5.5 million it spent to buy the cranes and ship them to Ohio, plus repayment for its losses from construction delays of at least one year on the project.
Four ironworkers were killed and four others hurt when one of two cranes collapsed between lanes of Interstate 280 while building a new bridge over the Maumee River. The second crane also malfunctioned when it was put back into service after an 8-month delay, according to the lawsuit.
Ironworkers Local 55 spokesman Joe Blaze said he wasn't surprised by the lawsuit, though he hadn't seen the complaint.
'There's a lot of finger-pointing because there's a lot at stake,' he said.
