Canada turns up heat on softwood - Asks WTO for sanctions on U.S. By STEVEN CHASE, The Globe and Mail
The Canadian government has raised the ante in the 40-month-old softwood lumber trade battle with the United States, asking a global trade body for the right to slap up to $200-million of retaliatory sanctions on U.S. goods.

Canada says it deserves the right to punish the United States because Washington has ignored a previous World Trade Organization order to conduct studies that Ottawa believes would clear Canadian timber of U.S. allegations that it is government-subsidized.
