BP leads nation in refinery deaths AP Wire
A March 23 blast that killed 15 and injured more than 100 was the seventh fatal accident reported this decade at a BP facility and the third in Texas City. BP has paid federal and state fines totaling about $20,000 in four of the fatal incidents, and investigations remain open in the three other deadly accidents.
But Naomi Brimer, whose husband, Terry, fell when a corroded railing collapsed at an Indiana refinery last year, said she didn't believe BP or OSHA officials took the company's safety violations seriously enough.
'I have a BP paper that says we will provide our employees with a safe work environment, but there wasn't one for my husband,' Brimer said. 'I don't feel like a $1,625 fine is enough of a motivator for them.'------------------------------------------- posted 11:37 AM :: reference link ::
