UFCW Adopts New Organizing Strategy Against Wal-Mart LaborTalk by Harry Kelber
It is not at all clear how the UFCW will carry on a nationwide organizing campaign beyond its announcement that it hopes to do so. Unless it provides some details about its new Wal-Mart strategy and its chances of success, its support within the labor movement will be limited. There are scores of unorganized companies with 15,000 or more workers that, at this stage, might represent better targets for AFL-CIO unions to focus on.
Realistically, it may turn out that the UFCW's major accomplishment will be its leadership of a widening coalition of organizations that will force Wal-Mart to become a better employer and a responsible, law-abiding institution that will serve the American public fairly.------------------------------------------- posted 11:43 AM :: reference link ::
