"There has definitely been a revitalization of labor in Arizona," McGrath said. "Our members are more energized and engaged."
But it's an uphill battle in Arizona, one of 22 right-to-work states. In these states, workers cannot be denied employment because they are not union members.
"In other states, companies move in and bring union members with them," McGrath said. "In Arizona, any increase in union membership is the result of blood, sweat and tears."
