Attorneys says faulty engineering killed ironworker - By MEMA AYI, Munster Times, IN
Attorney Lou Cairo said, 'Somebody made a mistake when they designed this bridge.'
The Chicago-based law firm Goldberg, Weisman and Cairo will represent the family in a wrongful death lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court on Monday.
Though it is still unclear exactly what caused the iron girders to fall, Cairo said Lopez was standing on a platform atop a shoring structure when the ramp collapsed. Lopez and the shoring structure were crushed.
Lopez had just released a crane cable holding the shoring structure to the iron girders and was about to climb down when the ramp collapsed, Cairo said.
