Work deaths in Arizona went up in 2004 - Craig Harris, The Arizona Republic
Trucking deaths were among the 27 'transportation and material moving occupations' fatalities in the state last year. Diaz said that truckers account for more deaths because they are continuously on the road. The total number of transportation-related deaths, which includes air, water and rail facilities, was 42.
Assaults and violent acts accounted for 13 deaths, while fatal work-related falls, like Monday's death at Phoenix Civic Plaza where an ironworker plunged more than 100 feet to his death, were the third-highest occupational hazard. They accounted for 11 work-related fatalities last year. The rest of the deaths fall under contact with objects and equipment, 9; exposure to harmful substances, 8; and other, 1.
