Safety shortcuts are a detour to disaster - By Joy Davia, Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, NY
Charles Morgan knows the dangers of construction work all too well.
In 1991, Morgan slipped on a piece of scrap felt paper and fell 30 feet off a house's roof. He shattered his heels, lower legs and ankles and was laid up for almost two years.
The irony?
"I went to that particular job for one reason: to make sure nobody was at risk of falling off the roof," said Morgan, who at the time owned his own residential construction company.
