Union President Criticizes Administration Policies Toward Veterans - American Federation of Government Employees
'Such is not the way America should treat our veterans. If our nation is to truly honor those who risked their lives to defend the freedoms and principles that so many Americans take for granted -- if our federal government is to honor the covenant it made with the men and women who served in uniform -- then we must not gut an already lean health care budget and take away jobs from hard-working veterans. These brave men and women deserve better. Veterans Day is a day as good as any to express our gratitude by saying, 'We honor you for your service.' But the true test of our national appreciation comes when it is time for deeds and actions to follow words. Will our actions prove us to be true?'
