Union membership mostly unchanged in '05 - By KIM CHIPMAN, Seattle Post Intelligencer
The government report Friday showed that union membership last year was highest among black workers at 15.1 percent, as well as among workers ages 45 to 64, 16.5 percent.
The total unionization rate for government workers was 36.5 percent, unchanged from the prior year, the report said.
Among private-sector industries, transportation companies and utilities had the highest membership rates at 24 percent. Information industries had 13.6 percent, while manufacturing had a 13 percent rate.
