Carpentry monopoly hammered by contractors - By Nicole Macintyre, The Hamilton Spectator, Ontario
A new union monopoly on the city's carpentry work has outraged local contractors who warn the deal will cost taxpayers millions.

The city didn't even realize the union drive was happening until it was over, despite being notified.

Staff are now trying to figure out if the city should, or even can, get out of the contract, which locks up all its future carpentry jobs with the Carpenters Union.
