BLOODY 'SCABS' IN UNION MELEE - By PHILIP MESSING and JENNIFER FERMINO, New York Post
"[A union man] kept getting in [a nonunion man's] face because he didn't want him to get to work," she said. "The nonunion guy went to hit him, and the union guy went to hit him back."
Then it hit the fan.
'When they all saw it happen, they made a mad dash for the gates,' Karst said. 'Everyone was fighting.'
The fracas looked like a scene out of 'Gangs of New York,' with the men shoving, punching and bleeding, witnesses said.
'Cops came driving up the sidewalk in a [fake] yellow cab with the lights flashing,' Karst said.
The undercover cops tried to stop the madness but couldn't.
'So they got into the brawl with them,' she said.
John Greaney, president of Local 608, said, 'It got out of control, and the police went to town on us.' "------------------------------------------- posted 4:45 PM :: reference link ::
