Protesters displeased with Governor - By Jannise Johnson, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, CA
Shouting 'shame on you' and carrying signs of displeasure about Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, close to 100 protesters on Wednesday evening descended to the newly opened Carpenter's Union Training Center.
The protest, organized about two days ago, was designed to coincide with the governor's visit to the training center for a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Schwarzenegger did not show up, but the protesters did.
'We want to send a message to Arnold to keep his hands off our apprenticeship programs,' said Robert Smith, of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades.
Edward Barnes, the Southern California Regional Director with the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California, said the Carpenter's Union in Southern California is the only union not supporting Schwarzenegger's gubernatorial opponent, Phil Angelides.
The Northern California arm of the carpenter's union has also publicly backed Angelides, he said.
As a result, many union members feel betrayed.------------------------------------------- posted 9:08 AM :: reference link ::
