WorkSafeBC premium cut for employers won't do any thing to improve workers' safety and does nothing to help injured workers - British Columbia Federation of Labour
Vancouver – Today’s WorkSafeBC premium cut for employers won’t do anything to improve workers’ safety and does nothing to help injured workers, says B.C. Federation of Labour President Jim Sinclair.
"Last year we recorded the highest number of worker fatalities in 25 years, yet see some of the lowest premium rates for employers. Something is definitely wrong with this picture," said Sinclair.
Earlier today, WorkSafe BC announced that 68 percent of BC employers will receive premium reductions in 2007, largely due to improved returns on investment.
"Have two-thirds of employers improved their safety standards?" Sinclair asked. "It’s unconscionable that following a 40 percent increase in worker fatalities last year, WorkSafeBC can find the money to give to employers but can’t find more dollars to restore benefits to injured workers or improve safety."------------------------------------------- posted 7:17 AM :: reference link ::
