Daley buildings chief quits to pursue degree - By Mickey Ciokajlo and Gary Washburn, Chicago Tribune
Knight replaced Stan Kaderbek, who had a brief but tumultuous tenure as the buildings commissioner.
In 2004, Kaderbek was at the forefront of the city's efforts to work with the Chicago Cubs after concrete chunks fell from the upper deck area of Wrigley Field. Later that year, four of his inspectors were fired or resigned after it was determined that their resumes were false or the information on them could not be verified.
One of those inspectors was the 19-year-old son of a Carpenters Union official. That incident was featured in last summer's hiring-fraud trial where a federal jury convicted Daley's patronage chief and three others of carrying out an illegal scheme to reward politically active workers. Kaderbek was not accused of wrongdoing.
Kaderbek took over the department in April 2004 from Norma Reyes, who was shifted into a lower-profile job. Reyes came under criticism for her response to the Lincoln Park porch collapse in 2003. She was in the job for just over a year.------------------------------------------- posted 7:54 AM :: reference link ::
