Big blue boycott sparked in Vegas - By Andrew Kiraly, Las Vegas CityLife Local 720's battle with Blue Man Group goes back to late May, when stagehands voted to unionize. On June 5, the regional office of the National Labor Relations Board certified Local 720 as their bargaining agent. But Blue Man Group has since appealed the decision on the technical point of whether to include 'music instrument technicians' in the union. Blue Man Group wants them in; the union balks, charging that Blue Man is stonewalling the union on a frivolous fine point. 'It's their flimsy argument,' says Ritzer. 'The irony in this is you've got London [Blue Man Group], which is union, Berlin, which has a union contract, and the the group out here in Las Vegas, where they make the money to do everything else and give them exposure worldwide, but they're not worth a collective bargaining agreement for 40 people.'
