Council OK's $125,000 in union fight - Hamilton Spectator, Ontario, Canada
The city is investing more money to fight a union monopoly of its carpentry work.
Council voted yesterday to continue legal action against the certification of the Carpenters' Union. Staff have suggested the unionization could cost taxpayers up to $10 million more a year.
Representatives of the union appealed to councillors to drop their opposition, but were countered by speakers from other unions and outside contractors who have been barred from bidding on city projects.
