Worried Ford workers hope UAW president remembers his start in Louisville - By Robert Schoenberger, Louisville Courier-Journal, KY
Joe Mecka, a worker at Louisville Assembly who transferred in early 2005 after his plant in New Jersey closed, said he chose Louisville because SUV sales were still fairly strong, and he thought the Fern Valley Road plant would be safe. But with SUV sales falling, he hopes someone will persuade Ford to reinvest in the factory to bring in new products.
'You would think it would matter that he's from here,' Mecka said of Gettelfinger.
But Mecka also believes that Ford is going to make its closure decisions based on economic statistics, not personal relationships with union leaders.
