Construction career fairs seek to draw the young into the trades - By CHARLOTTE TUCKER, phillyBurbs.com, PA
The students, from 40 high schools in south-central Pennsylvania, convened at a recent Construction Career Day at the York Expo Center to try their hands at professions that will need them desperately in the coming years.

'It's tougher to get today's youth interested in the trades,' said Vincent Weaver, council representative of the Greater Pennsylvania Regional Council of Carpenters. 'We live in a computer age.'

The average age of a skilled tradesman is 48, according to National Construction Career Days Center, an organization funded by the Federal Highway Administration to promote the construction industry to young people in the United States.
