Maybe your boss wants you to quit smoking, but you can't. Or maybe you're having trouble shedding extra pounds to get a discount on your health insurance.
In a quest to cut costs, an increasing number of companies are launching wellness programs that reward those who meet specific health goals or penalize those who don't.
To make sure companies don't unfairly apply these relatively new policies, the federal government has issued a set of new regulations that take effect starting on or after July 1.
Since most health plans are renewed on Jan. 1, the effect of the new rules is still a ways off. But now is the time for companies to review their polices -- or risk running afoul of the Labor Department and paying potentially hefty fines.------------------------------------------- posted 5:32 AM :: reference link ::
