Deal puts heat on CAW - Chris Vander Doelen, Windsor Star
"I haven't done the formal work but as of now there is an approximately $25 per hour disadvantage" to GM, Ford and Chrysler building vehicles in Canada rather than the U.S.
The UAW secured what it calls "job security guarantees" that prevent certain plants from closing and locks in U.S. jobs.
DesRosiers says Gettelfinger's mention of job-security guarantees "is code for 'GM will no longer be able to invest as much in Canada and Mexico.'"
"The CAW have a very big problem and it will be interesting to see how they respond," DesRosiers said. "The Auto Pact is gone and now our health-care advantage is gone. Throw in a par dollar and all of the competitive advantages for a Canadian location are now toast."------------------------------------------- posted 8:12 AM :: reference link ::
