Firm charged in death will set up award Canadian Press via The Calgary Sun
Pillar Resources of Calgary will have to provide $50,000 for an award at Red Deer College rather than go to trial, said Crown prosecutor Mitch Crumley.
The scholarship is intended to help people remember the victim's name, who he is and what happened to cause him to die.
"My hope is it will make a difference out there. People can learn a lesson and the corporation can learn a lesson," Crumley said.
In 2004, John Hennessy-Moore, 18, died when a pipe hit him in the face while he was working for Pillar Oilfield Projects Ltd. at a worksite in Lloydminster, Sask. Pillar Resources was charged with failing to ensure the health and safety of a worker.
