B.C.'s West Kootenays face labour shortage - CBC via The Canadian Press
Low wages and the high cost of housing are forcing young workers to look elsewhere for employment, he told the board.
As a result, there were fewer young people coming into the workforce compared to those retiring in 2006, and by 2009, Penfold projected the gap will widen to a 2,900 fewer workers.
"That's staggering if you think of the consequences of that now," he said.
